Melinda grew up in a small city by Lake Ontario with views of the waterfront at her doorstep. Melinda was eager to pursue a career in accounting after falling in love with it in her first high school accounting class: nothing made more sense to her than debits and credits. To prepare for her accounting career, Melinda chose George Brown College, earning an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration – Accounting, and later earned a Bachelor in Business Management and Finance at Ryerson University.
Melinda has worked in various industries including hospitality, arts, finance, sports and event hosting, with a goal of establishing a career in the non-profit sector. Nothing provides her with more career achievement and joy then going to a job she’s proud of and that contributes to a sector she’s passionate about, allowing her the opportunity to give back.
Melinda’s professional accounting experience begin as an intern accounting assistant, which turned into a part-time position while she completed her education. Since then, she’s worked as an accounting clerk and bookkeeper, and most recently, she was on a 13-month contract specializing on the payables side of accounting. Nine months in, Melinda was promoted to revenue controller for the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
When she’s not working, Melinda can be found in the kitchen playing with recipes. She loves to cook and whip up a batch of sweets every now and then, especially cheesecake.
